I get asked time and time again how I transfer images.
Well here you go –
Find your image and get it printed out from a Laserjet printer which has toner, looks a bit like dust in the cartridges (inkjet prints won’t work).
When you print it out – make sure it’s flipped – i.e. back to front, so if there’s writing (for example) it will read correctly. Colour works fine as well.
I use thin cheap paper – easier to get off later.
For bigger images I use a local print shop who cam print out big sheets.
I use Annie Sloan Decoupage glue ( Yep, the stuff you normally use to just stick things down ) and brush it on the image and also the surface it’s going on. You have to work quickly.
Push the paper face down where you want it to go and I then brush on some decoupage on the back as well as it makes it easier to smooth out any air bubbles or creases.
I let it dry overnight – it will look like white paper stuck on.
The next day give it a light sanding and use a kitchen sponge and hot water to start removing the paper. It’s quite tricky to get it off without taking off the image, but the more you do it, the better you’ll get.
I use my hands to rub off paper as well. When you get it all off, or as much as you can, apply some Annie Sloan Clear Wax to protect it – this will also help make any leftover paper ‘disappear’ too.
You can do it on painted surfaces or plain wood. Colour or black and white
Have a few practises on a spare piece of wood, start off small and work your way up. It gets easier and it really lets you do anything you want.
all the best x
