If you’ve got some grotty carpet on your stairs and it needs replacing (like ours did!) – a time and money saving idea is to paint with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.
All I did here was take up the old carpet, underlay and grip rods (hate those things) give it a good clean and hoover. I’ve used 2 coats of French Linen and 2 coats of Floor Lacquer. It’s all quick drying stuff, so even if you do paint yourself into a ‘trapped’ situation you won’t be for long!
Work quickly and use a smaller flat brush for the edges.
And I’m not sure what those little holes are for – guess, I’ll have to fill them at some point!?

Hi. I’m very new to painting. Now that my little girl is in nursery I can start little painting jobs on old cottage we are in. What kind of floor lacquer did you use? Any make will do? Do you mean that is as fast drying as the Annie Sloan Paint? Next Friday I will have 6hrs free if child and husband and would love to do the stairs. All the best, Tunde
Hiya – we used Annie Sloan Floor Lacquer – it’s quick drying and designed to work with Annie Sloan Paint. Thin coats work best – here’s the link https://www.dovetailsvintage.co.uk/shop/annie-sloan-chalk-paint-annie-sloan-floor-lacquer-1-litre/
